INTIMACY WITH GOD USING THE 5 LOVE LANGUAGES
It is always such a blessing to sit under the ministration of one my mentors (some of my friends must have heard me talk about her) Pastor Damilola Otolorin. Last Sunday was really great as she preached on 'Intimacy With God' and she explained how we can use the Five Love Languages to build a very intimate relationship with God. I'll just share my little understanding of the message.
Intimacy is a close, familiar, personal, usually affectionate relationship with a deep knowledge or understanding with an entity.
God created us in His image and that explains why the love languages are also applicable to getting intimate with God. In no particular order, here are the 5 love languages and a little bit on how to use them to get closer to God.
1. QUALITY TIME : How much time do you spend fellowshipping with God? Is it just the daily routine morning and sometimes, evening prayers? Is it just on Sundays at church? Why not spend more time in worshipping God, studying and meditating on His Words, praying... You know how much you long to have some time with the person you love and how long you want that time to be. With God, time is never too much.
2. GIVING OF GIFTS : You can give without loving, but you can't love without giving... Your substance, talent, life... All these are forms of gifts that can be given to God. Giving to the needy is also a way to give to God. Matthew 25:35-40
Ref: Isaiah 43:23-24, Malachi 3:8
3. PHYSICAL TOUCH: The question is, 'How can we touch God?' You remember the woman with the issue of blood who touched the hem of Jesus' garment and Jesus' response was, 'Who touched me?' Matthew 8:43-46. Now, that woman did not just touch Jesus' garment, she touched Him, by her FAITH. Do you have FAITH? selah!
4. WORDS OF AFFIRMATION: How do you feel towards someone who constantly tells you how he /she thinks you are beautiful, intelligent, incredible, et cetera? I guess you tend to like that person. God's love for Praise cannot be over emphasized, that's the way to touch His heart, no wonder David was a man after God's heart, he just knew how to get to God's heart.
5. ACTS OF SERVICE : Service to God can come in various forms, service at your place of worship, service at your place of work or business... Colossians 3:23, 'And WHATSOEVER ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men. ' Take note of the word 'Whatsoever'. Actively serve God with what He has blessed you with (in your area of talents, with your wealth, by promoting the Good news...)
Why shouldn't we try these love languages and have a closer relationship with God.
